A Call for Volunteers…Saturday May 5th 2018
Dear Friends and Members,
The Central Jersey Bicycle Club's annual “Farmlands Flat Bicycle Tour”
has been a popular tri-state tradition for over 30 years, this year marks our
34th year staging this event… and is the first major bicycle event of the season.
The “Tour” takes place at…
Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ… 6 am – 6 pm
It is THE MAJOR FUNDRAISER for our bicycle club and we'd like everyone's help to continue to make it a success.
This year we are proud to announce that we will be donating a percentage of the profits to the “New Jersey Bike and Walk Coalition” and the “Lincroft First Aid Squad”.

We need this income in order to cover internet expenses, insurance and yearly charitable donations, & bicycle advocacy. It can also benefit you in terms of participating in the New Member/Appreciation ride; the Tom Koenig Memorial Anniversary ride; the Longest Day ride; the Awards/ Recognitions Dinner; the Volunteers Dinner; the Holiday Party; and other social events in which a meal is include. It can only happen with your help, dedication, and effort.
Every year we need 60 volunteers for:
Painting Staff, where you & a partner, drive the routes, prior to the day of, and paint arrows in the roadways. Route sheets, stencil and paint provided.
4 crews of 2 persons needed for 8 hours.
Volunteer Coordinator, where you recruit and coordinate the responsibilities for the 60 people who make this event happen.
Food Coordinators, where you help with the shopping and distribution of food, beverages and other supplies for the rest stops, including the college, prior to the ride; and distributing lunches for paid riders and volunteers who are there the day of the ride.
Day of Ride Food Staff, where you make sure the bicyclists have snacks, bagels, fruit, trail mix, beverages, etc. ready to be self-served. 4 persons needed for 4 - 8 hour shifts, between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM, at the college.
Pre-Registration Staff, where you check in the Active.com registration riders the day of. 5 persons needed. 6 am – 12 pm
Day of Registration Staff, where you check in “walk-in” riders the day of.
5 persons needed 6 am – 12 pm.
Day of Event Questions or GoTo Person, where you address any issues that may arise on the day of the event; such as questions from riders. 2 persons needed at the college 4 – 8 hours.
Parking Assistant, to guide arriving cyclists to the proper the parking lots and ease their arrival at the event. 2 - 4 persons needed, 6 am – 12 pm
Rest stop volunteers, where you greet the riders with snacks and refreshments. The time schedules are flexible. Different locations are available. Most people needed here. There are 4 rest stops all located in beautiful parks.
4 persons for 4 – 6 hour shifts, per rest stop.
Sags, where you drive your vehicle to pick up or help a rider. You will be reimbursed for mileage. For this task you will need a car with a rack that can carry one or two bicycles. Time schedules are from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Individual shift times vary. 3 shifts of 3 people.
Logistics, where we rent a U-Haul van for you to drive. It entails the pickup of food and supplies and their delivery to rest stops and to the start/finish of the event, returning our supplies to our storage unit in Edison on Sunday.
2 – 4 persons are needed for this task on Friday late afternoon,
Saturday 6 am – 7 pm & 2 hours on Sunday afternoon; & returning the van on Monday.
Clean up Staff, where we load the items on the truck to be returned to the storage unit in Edison, on Sunday. Time schedule 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. All hands on deck.
Public Relations, where you help publicize the event. A greater turnout benefits the club and its members.
Volunteers at the college, get treated to coffee, breakfast items, and lunch, as well as a free event T-shirt.
Volunteers at the rest stops, will be reimbursed for their own purchased lunches.
Volunteers will also be invited, free of charge, to the volunteer dinner at a later date.
Volunteers can also ride in the event, free of charge, in the morning or afternoon, after or before your shift.
“Farmlands” is a fun, social event where you can make new cycling friends while helping the club.
